2025 Red Fox Fur Coat Presentation

by | Dec 3, 2025 | Heritage

Dear Friends and Supporters,

This year’s Red Fox Fur Coat Presentation marked another proud moment in a tradition that began in 1990—one dedicated to honoring Maryland’s trapping heritage and educating the public about the vital role that responsible wildlife management plays in our state. On August 2, 2025, Miss Maryland Teen, Rebecca West, was formally presented with her handcrafted red fox fur coat by longtime MFTI member Ron Leggett.

Our orientation for the contestants took place in July and was led by Robert Colona, joined by Ron andBetty Leggett and Trevor Firey. Approximately twenty young women attended. Their interest, respect, and thoughtful questions about Maryland’s trapping history reminded us why this work continues to matter. Robert’s presentation was warmly received, and the young ladies showed a sincere eagerness to understand the purpose and responsibility behind ethical wildlife management.

Rebecca has already represented the Maryland Fur Trappers with pride, wearing the red fox coat in two Maryland parades. She carries herself with grace and speaks with a respect that honors every trapper who has worked the woods, marshes, farms, and waterways of our state. She will continue to attend events throughout the year, sharing the story of Maryland’s fur trade and helping the public understand how controlled harvests support healthy wildlife populations and preserve a deeply rooted way of life.

The red fox pelts for this year’s coat were graciously donated by Butch and Jaime Glenn and their son Clayton. The coat itself was expertly crafted by RK Furs, owned by David Schaefer of Nanticoke, Pennsylvania. The attached photo of Butch and Clayton Glenn reflects the family pride and craftsmanship that make this longstanding tradition possible.

We want to thank each and every one of you for supporting MFTI. Without your help and steadfast belief in our mission, opportunities like this simply would not happen. Your dedication allows us to continue teaching the next generation, sharing the truth about ethical trapping, and preserving a legacy that helped shape Maryland long before any of us were here.

From all of us at Maryland Fur Trappers, Inc., thank you for standing with us.

Sincerely,

Maryland Fur Trappers, Inc.
