2024 Maryland Fur Trappers Convention

Outdoor Class

Friday Morning

This year the Maryland Fur Trappers convention kicked off Friday morning with several people helping to setup the kitchen and the displays. A little after lunch the trap supply dealers were there and started setting up to do business. So around 2:30 Denton Leggett and Robert Colona led several trappers through the fields to setup the live trapline.

Tommy Bryant from NC drove in so he agreed to set traps Friday afternoon. The temperature was around 95 degrees . That is Robert Colona watching Tommy and take notice how red their faces are from the heat.

Saturday Morning

This is Saturday morning as we began to check the live trapline. ( I most say that the live trapline was my father  (Pete Leggett) idea from 35 years ago. )The purpose of doing this is to help people that are interested in trapping to increase  their Knowledge. Robert Colona did a fantastic explanation of the reason they set traps at this location.

The crab feast was a great success. Good food, music and a wonderful time with family and friends.

Laura and Zac

Luara and her son Zac Gidney from NY were very interesting. They showed the crowd several different style canine sets that would help a trapper in bad weather.

Autumn McEntee

Autumn McEntee a trapper from PA. Did a trapping demonstration that was will attend by everyone.

Heartfelt Thanks for Making the 2024 Maryland Fur Trappers Convention a Success

Dear Friends and Fellow Trappers,

I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who attended and contributed to the 2024 Maryland Fur Trappers convention. Your presence and participation were the heart and soul of the event, making it a memorable experience for all.

To the attendees, your enthusiasm and camaraderie truly embodied the spirit of our trapping community. Whether you traveled from near or far, your commitment to preserving and promoting our shared traditions did not go unnoticed. It was inspiring to see so many familiar faces and to meet new friends who share our passion for the outdoors and the art of trapping.

A special thanks to the vendors and exhibitors who showcased their products and shared their expertise. Your contributions added a unique value to the convention, offering both seasoned trappers and newcomers the tools and knowledge they need to succeed in the field.

I also want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the volunteers and organizers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Your dedication ensured that everything ran smoothly, from setting up the event to ensuring that everyone had a great time. Without your efforts, this convention would not have been the success that it was.

Finally, thank you to all the speakers and workshop leaders who shared their wisdom and experience with us. Your presentations were both educational and inspiring, reminding us all why we are passionate about trapping and the conservation of wildlife.

This year’s convention was truly a testament to the strength and unity of our trapping community. I’m already looking forward to what we can accomplish together next year.

Warmest regards,

Dan Baker – President Maryland Fur Trappers, Inc.
